"1776"

NPR's "Talk of the Nation" today featured an interview with someone I have long admired,
author and historian David McCullough, who discussed his book "1776."

Happy Fourth of July!

Brad actually did a phone interview with him during college. I haven't read any of his books. Which would you recommend?

I would love to get an opportunity to sit down and talk with him for an hour. That's great that Brad got a chance to do that.

I would recommend "Truman," it's excellent.

On one of my many trips to presidential museums, I visited Truman's in Independence, Missouri and became fascinated with the former president. I also visited his home and got a tour from a National Park Service employee. He told us how President Truman was always an early riser and that after he retired to Independence, he would walk to his library and museum, often being the first person there in the morning. So if you called early, you would likely get him on the phone. He was even known to give tourists a personal tour. I thought that was so cool.
